Using Your Peel and Stick Color-Coded Pack-N-Labels®

To assist in making the packing, unloading and unpacking process easier, individual room Pack-N-Labels® have been color-coded. For example, BATHROOM #2 item box labels are GREEN, KITCHEN box labels are YELLOW, DINING ROOM box labels are BROWN, etc. During the unloading process, you can direct movers to rooms quickly by looking at the color of the box label instead of having to stop and read every content label. Too, your UNPACKING process will move much faster because you will know the content of each box. NO MORE GUESSING. Just follow these few recommendations:

·        Pack one room at a time. Keep room items together as much as possible. This will prevent your having to search through countless boxes during the unpacking process.

·        Have your color-coded Pack-N-Labels® ready to place on your boxes. They’re easy to use. Just peel and stick.

·        Check off items on the label as you place them in the box. NO WRITING NECESSARY.

·        After you seal your box, place the completed color-coded CONTENT label on the TOP or END of the box.

·        In addition to placing your CONTENT label on the TOP or END of the box, we recommend that you also place at least one room identifier color-coded label on the END or one SIDE of the box.

·        Be sure to place labels on the same side of each box to prevent having to look on all sides to locate the room label.

·        Placing labels on the top, end and/or side of each box will reduce the time you spend in directing movers to room locations and will reduce the time spent searching for box content which makes your UNPACKING process go much smoother.

·        This Pack-N-Label® package contains color-coded ROOM IDENTIFIER POSTERS. Pin or tape these posters on the doorway entrance prior to movers arriving at your new home to help movers locate these rooms quickly. Posters are color-coded to box labels. Some rooms may have more than one poster. For example, the doorway entrance to the master bedroom could have one poster for the MASTER BEDROOM and one for the MASTER BATHROOM.

·        Be sure you number each box. Your Pack-N-Label® package includes a Master Inventory Record Form. We recommend that you record the box number, contents, serial/model numbers for electronic equipment, and room location to ensure you have a record of your household items should a box be lost or damaged. Keep this record with you.

·        Room location columns on your inventory form are color-coded to match your box labels.

·        Labels for identifying items that need special handling (e.g., FRAGILE, THIS SIDE UP, etc.) are included in this Pack-N-Label® package.

Essential Items Box

In order to assist you with moving in and unpacking, we recommend that you plan ahead and pack those items that you will need upon your arrival at your new home. (Note: For your convenience, Essential Items Box labels have been included in this package. Load these boxes LAST so they can be unloaded FIRST or take these boxes with you. Be sure to place label on TOP, END and/or SIDE of box.

The following items will be helpful when you arrive at your new home:

·        A change of clothing for each person.

·        Flashlights and light bulbs.

·        Basic tools (e.g., hammer, screwdrivers, wire pliers, nails, tape, screws, tape measure, utility knife, scissors, etc.).

·        Paper/plastic products (e.g., plates, napkins, forks, spoons, knives, cups, straws, trash bags, towels, etc.).

·        Food/beverages (e.g., instant coffee/tea, bottled water, sodas, powdered beverages, snacks, chips, candies, pastries, etc.).

·        Bathroom/bedding supplies (e.g., towels, sheets, blankets, soap, shampoo, toilet tissue, shower curtain, hand towels, toiletries, etc.).

·        Cleaning supplies (e.g., dish detergents, cleansers, etc.).

·        Medicines (e.g., prescription drugs, aspirins, first aid kit, etc.).

·        Cell phone, radio, batteries, hand-held electronic games, board games (for children), etc.

·        Pet foods (as applicable).

·        Paper and pencils.

Getting Things In Order

Your move will be easier and smoother if you plan your packing. Try these helpful tips:

·        Videotape or photograph electronics, valuables, and antique items before packing.

·        Make a master inventory listing of all items packed. (Master Inventory Record Form included in this package.)

·        Begin packing early. Determine what items you want to pack first. For example, begin with packing non-essential items.

·        Pack like items together. For example, pack your hair dryer, curling iron, electric shaver, etc., in one or two boxes (or more if needed) so that these items are together when unpacking.

·        Get more boxes than you think you will need.

·        When your boxes are filled, be sure each is securely sealed, labeled and numbered.

·        Remember, pack one room at a time.

Getting Started

Before you start packing, be sure you have the following materials readily available:

·        Appropriate peel and stick color-coded content and room identifier Pack-N-Labels®

·        Strong, sturdy boxes (in assorted sizes). These items can usually be purchased from stores that carry office/shipping supplies and from moving companies. (Note: If using boxes from grocery/hardware/computer stores, etc., be sure such boxes are clean as they may house insect eggs, bugs, and roaches.)

·        Several rolls of wide (e.g., 2 inches) shipping or packing tape. We do not recommend the use of masking tape to secure the flaps of your boxes as it may not be strong enough to keep your boxes safely sealed during loading and unloading.

·        An ample supply of bubble wrap, wrapping/tissue paper, packing peanuts, foam sheets, etc. (Note: These items can usually be purchased from stores that carry office and shipping supplies and from moving companies.) PRINTED NEWSPAPER can leave ink smudges on your household items. Use it only for cushioning items that are already wrapped or protected.

·        Clear plastic resealable bags. (For packing items, such as lotions, shaving cream, candles, screws, nuts and bolts, lids, batteries, etc.)

·        Towels, blankets, linens, etc., to wrap or cushion BREAKABLE or FRAGILE items.

Packing Your Boxes

·        Reinforce the bottom flaps of the box with at least one strip of wide shipping or packing tape. Be sure bottom is securely sealed. (Note: We do not recommend the use of masking tape to secure the flaps of your boxes as it may not be strong enough to keep your boxes safely sealed during loading and unloading.)

·        Line the bottom and sides of your box with crumpled up paper or towels, linens, pot holder, packing peanuts, bubble wrap, etc.

·        Wrap all your breakable/fragile items in towels, linens, bubble wrap, wrapping/tissue paper, etc., to prevent breakage. (Note: Do not pack your breakable/fragile items too tightly as they can be broken during loading and unloading. Stuff wrapping/tissue paper, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, etc., into loose areas of box.)

·        Place heavy items in the bottom of the box. Pack lighter items on top.

·        Do not over pack your boxes. Limit weight to an amount you can easily pick up. (Rule of thumb is no more than 30-50 pounds per box.)

·        Pack as much as you can into each box. Use bubble wrap, tissue paper, packing peanuts, etc., to pack between items to aid in preventing the shifting of items during transport.

·        Secure the top flaps of each box with at least one strip of wide shipping or packing tape.

Labeling & Numbering Your Boxes

Labeling your boxes with room destination and box number will save you lots of time during the unloading and unpacking process. We recommend that you:

·        Label and number each box.

·        Your unloading will go much smoother if you place the appropriate color-coded content on the TOP or END of your box and the color-coded room identifier label on the END or on at least one side of each box. (Helpful Hint: Placing labels on the top and same side of each box will reduce the time spent looking for the label when taking box to designated rooms.)

·        Place appropriate precautionary labels on boxes to aid in identifying boxes that have special handling precautions. (Labels included in this package.)

·        Write on the master inventory record the box number, content, and room destination of each box. (Note: Be sure to include serial/model numbers for all electronic items.)

·        Take your filled, securely taped, and labeled boxes to a designated room or area to be loaded onto your moving truck.
